Following the implementation of the Medicare Hospital-Acquired Conditions Initiative on October 1, 2008, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has placed restrictions on reimbursement of costs for treating several conditions acquired during hospital stays, including three hospital-acquired infections. Decision Resources has recently surveyed hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee members, infectious disease specialists and critical care specialists to determine the impact of these changes and other key factors influencing hospital anti-infective prescribing.
Among other topics, this webinar will focus on how recent Medicare reform will affect antibiotic usage, infection control practices, and how drugs are scrutinized for hospital formulary inclusion.
The webinar, presented by Director Danielle Drayton, Ph.D., will answer the following questions:
- According to surveyed hospital committee members, infectious disease specialists and critical care specialists, what impact will the changes in Medicare reimbursement have on medical practice?
- How will prescribing of key antibiotic brands and drug classes change as a result of Medicare reimbursement reform?
- To what extent will infection prevention practices and prescribing controls be affected as hospital committee members, infectious disease specialists and critical care specialists respond to reduced Medicare reimbursement for hospital-acquired infections?
Dr. Drayton and Vice President of Infectious Diseases John Lebbos, M.D. will conduct a live Q&A session after the presentation.
