Based on our 2009 Industry Report Biosimilars: TNF-Alpha Inhibitors and Interferon-Alphas in Immune and Infectious Disease, Decision Resources is offering an exclusive webinar entitled Despite Physicians' Conservative Attitude Towards Biosimilars, TNF-Alpha Inhibitors Stand to Lose $22 Billion in Sales. Because this webinar will feature major report findings, it is ONLY available to purchasers of this report.

Since the launch of the first biosimilar human growth hormone (hGH) in 2006, biosimilars have become increasingly important to pharmaceutical companies as they try to protect the revenue streams generated by their major brands. Previously, branded biologics were protected from the type of generic erosion that eventually faces all small-molecule therapies by the absence of an abbreviated regulatory pathway for approval of biosimilars. As regulatory agencies have now established—or are soon going to establish—pathways for approval of biosimilars, companies marketing major brands will need to consider a complicated and interdependent set of issues.
This webinar, presented by Decision Resources Analyst MaryEllen Klusacek, Ph.D., will answer the following questions:
- Will TNF-alphas continue to be a priority for payers in terms of reducing costs associated with biologics? Will patients currently taking branded biologics be allowed to continue using them? To what extent do payers expect patients to switch to biosimilars? How soon do they think this will occur?
- How do gastroenterologists and rheumatologists compare to physicians in other specialties when prescribing biosimilars? What motivates gastroenterologists and rheumatologists to use biosimilars? Do gastroenterologists and rheumatologists have different expectations for different branded TNF-alphas?
- To what extent will biosimilars erode brand sales? How does the expected brand erosion for TNF-alphas compare to that of other classes of biologics? What individual molecules will face the most competition/lose the most in sales?
Dr. Klusacek will conduct a live Q & A session after the presentation.
